How to load filament on the Ender-3 V3 SE 3D printers.
¶ Skills/Class Required
A membership or day pass is required to access 3D Printing. The following Workshop is optional and covers basic 3D printer operation:
¶ Machine Reservations
You can make machine reservations in the following ways:

¶ Before You Begin
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
• As in all of the shops, sturdy, close-toed shoes must be worn at all times for traction and stability.

- The nozzle and bed of the 3D printers get
hot! Do not touch the nozzle or the bed while they are hot!

¶ Handling Filament and Filament Spools
Never let the free end of the filament on a spool get away from you. Filament is easy to tangle and tangled filament will cause print problems. Always keep the end of the filament secured to the spool, the printer, or in your hand.
¶ Preheating the machine
- Turn on the machine.
- Using the button-wheel control, scroll over to the "Prepare" tab. Push button to select.
- Scroll down to "Preheat PLA". Push button to select.
- This will heat the nozzle and bed of the machine to PLA working temperatures over the next few minutes.
¶ Preparing the Filament
- Prepare the end of the filament for insertion into the printer by cutting off any kinked bits. The filament should follow its natural curve and have no corners or sharp bends in it.
- Then, snip the end of it off at an angle.
- If the printer is still preheating, secure the end again while you wait.
¶ Unloading Filament
If there is already filament loaded into the printer, you will need it remove it.
- Using the button-wheel control, scroll over to the "Prepare" tab. Push button to select.
- Scroll down to "Retract". Push button to select.
- Follow any additional instructions from the machine. Be ready to pull the filament out with a quick firm tug.
Holding the lever on the left side of the hot end will help the retraction.
¶ Loading Filament
- Once the printer is preheated and any previous filament is removed, thread the end of the filament through the hole in the top of the hot end.
- Using the button-wheel control, scroll over to the "Prepare" tab. Push button to select.
- Scroll down to "Extrude". Push button to select.
- Follow any additional instructions from the machine.
