Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
• Sturdy, close-toed shoes must be worn at all times for traction and stability.
• Long hair, jewelry, and loose clothing must be tied back to prevent getting caught in moving parts. For more information on shop safety visit Textiles under "Safety."
✓ Make sure the machine is turned off before threading the machine.
✓ Ensure that you are not wearing any dangling jewelry or loose clothing that could get caught in the machine.
✓ Keep your feet off the drive pedal[^1] as you perform this procedure.
There are two main ways to thread the machine. If it is already threaded correctly, you can use the fast way. If it is not threaded, or threaded incorrectly, follow the diagram below.
Thread guide. Thread the right hole from top to bottom, bring the thread back around to the top.
Thread the left hole from top to bottom.
Thread guide. Thread the upper hole from right to left.
Thread the lower hole from right to left.
Tension mechanism. Bring the thread down and to the right of the tension knob. Bring the thread underneath and to the left, being sure to get it between the plates.
Continue bringing the thread to the left. Be sure to get it between the plates. Then bring it up and to the right, before bringing it leftward in order to get the thread hooked into the spring.
Thread guides. Bring the thread up through the wide guide directly above the tension mechanisms, then bring it up through the long guide.
Take up lever eye. Thread the eye from right to left.
Bring the thread straight down through the wide guide.
Pass the thread through the smaller wide loop from top to bottom
Make sure to get the thread behind the plate so that it comes out down and to the back of the plate assembly.
Thread guide. Thread the guide above the needle from from to back.
