Instructions to thread the needle on the Bernina Q24 longarm quilting machine before operation.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Sturdy, close-toed shoes must be worn at all times.
Long hair, jewelry, and loose clothing should be tied back.
Ear protection is recommended as the Bernina can get quite loud.
For more information on shop safety visit Digital Textiles under "Safety."
No pantograph work or rulerwork may be done on the Bernina longarm quilting machine!
Raise the Presser Foot.
Place thread on left spool pin.
Pull the thread straight up from the spool through the thread guide on the thread guide bar directly above the spool. Pull the thread forward and through the front guide on the thread guide bar.
Take the thread through the upper left guide or the right upper guide. Either one may be used.
For double needles, place one thread in each guide.
When working on projects that include adhesives (spray or a fusible product, for example) or cotton or metallic threads, bring the thread through the left guide first, then through the silicone case and through the right guide and finally pull the thread in direction of the arrow through the lower thread guide.

Pull the thread down and in the direction of the arrow on the lower thread guide.
Bring thread across the front of the machine to the right, above the door. At this point, open the door.

Bring the thread up and to the right, following the silver arrow and wire guide. This will lay the thread on the tension discs. You can check that the thread is in the V of the discs by peeking in the side.
Bring the the thread down, under, and forward of the hook.
Bring thread back up to the Take-Up Lever, threading from back to front.
Bring the thread down through the paperclip shaped guide. It slides in from right to left.
Bring thread through the back guide just below the front cover. Use the two holes on the front of this thread guide for double needle threading.
Thread the guide at the needle bar from right to left.
Thread the needle from front to back. Do it by hand, use a manual needle threader, or use the automatic needle threader.
Use the Thread Cutter on the left side of the machine head to cut the length of the thread the correct length for pulling the bobbin thread to the top of the quilt prior to stitching.
You have successfully threaded the Bernina Q24 longarm quilting machine!
The auto threader is the grey plastic tab and lever to the left of the needle.
Bring the thread to the left, behind the nub sticking downwards out of the grey plastic to the left of the needle.
Wrap the thread around the front to the right, keeping it underneath the protrusion on the nub. The thread and needle will make a 4 shape.

Press and hold the grey tab down to put the threader in position.
Make sure the thread is in the slot on the right side of the needle.

While holding the thread in position, slowly let the auto threader back up.
If it has worked, there will be a loop of thread through the eye of the needle. Pull the thread through from the back.
