The following guide is to be used when the Dell computer monitor mounted on the Bernina Q24 Longarm machine won’t turn on. The power cord that goes into the monitor is lit up blue and plugged in, but the power button (LED Diagnostic) is blinking amber. There is either no screen activity or a white windows screen which prompts you to set up the date and time.
Count the number of amber LED blinks and pauses. Click here and consult the document to see which problem the blinks correspond to.
If the amber light has “three blinks followed by a short pause, one blink, long pause, then repeats.” that means there was an “RTC Power Failure CMOS Battery Failure”. RTC is the Real Time Clock that keeps track of the time within the monitor, and CMOS is the coin battery that powers the CMOS chip in the motherboard of the computer.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Sturdy, close-toed shoes must be worn at all times.
For more information on shop safety visit Digital Textiles under "Safety."
Unplug the USB mouse, keyboard, USB Bernina connector, and black power cord with blue light from the back of the monitor.
Remove the monitor from the mount by unscrewing the four screws in the back. This is easier done with 2 people so the monitor does not fall off as you are unscrewing it.
Place the monitor face down on a soft surface to not scratch it.
Push down on the black tab on the back of the monitor and slide the plastic cover up to remove it.
Unscrew the 5 screws on the silver circuit board cover and remove it.
Pop out the button battery and replace it. It should click into place under the small brass tab (see location in picture below).
Replace the silver cover, and the 5 screws to be completely tight.
Slide the black plastic cover back on to the back of the monitor, taking care to ensure all tabs meet up in their proper locations until the center tab clicks back under the bar.
Plug in the black power cord with the blue light into the back of the monitor, as well as all USB connections.
Hit the power button on the monitor to turn on again.
Follow the setup sequence on the screen to set the RTC clock.
Open the Bernina Q-Matic software and ensure the computer is recognizing the machine so it is operational for the next Long Arm user.
